Today I celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Chinglish.de.
What started as a one man-project in 2005 is now ... still a one-man project, but the support of you fellow bloggers and China travellers has grown tremendously.
Thank you very much.
After being mentioned in the Wall Street Journal this little blog received and is still receiving media attention from the US, China and Germany. Even Spanish and Czech newspapers have taken an interest.
At the moment I get about five to ten Chinglish beauties a week, making it an ever growing backlog for the next few months. But that doesn't mean you should stop sending them in!
As Beijing's frantic search for everything Chinglish enters its final year before the Olypmics, I need your continuous support to find and conserve a linguistic phenomenon that is worth every letter.

and what I wanna say to you on the 2nd anniversary chinglish.de is "good good study, day day up!", the literal chinglish translation from what Mao Tse-Tung once said(he said so in chinese by "hao hao xue xi, tian tian xiang shang").

I also got to know your blog from FT.com and think it a great initiative. I now live in Xi’an, where, luckily, Chinglish is not a treasure near extinction.
Omnipresence of Chinglish testifies to influence of the English language as well as China’s ambition to command it. I often look at Chinglish with a fixed feeling. On the whole, I do not oppose use of Chinglish. After all, it show Chinese’s good will to make themselves understood and you have no reason to expect everybody speak idiomatic English. But in some case when a wrong translation has threatened the goal of communicating correct message, I’m sort of obliged to venture corrections. I think the wrong translation that damages the intended meaning is mainly a result of carelessness with which the translator works with the original Chinese text. Therefore, the translator should be blamed for lack of due serious attitude required.
I will take shots of good Chinglish examples with my cellphone and share with you.
P.S.: You’ve got a really nice Chinese name.
