A tough one. For Y55.



Suggestions, anyone?

My private eye Silvano reported from Xi'an 西安:

Too bad I can't remember the name of the restaurant to which the menu belonged, and actually, it carried some other curious items, such as Two Human Life Set Menu (i.e. 二人世界套餐) etc, but under the noses of the waitresses, we couldn't find a chance to take more pictures without embarrassing them. That made me really want to steal it!

The restaurant is a chain, with a big sign stating "台北牛排" and stairs leading up to the second floor where it actually is. The interior design is a mixture of many tacky styles, with swings instead of chairs for some tables. The one where I took the picture is at an intersection on 东大街.

As a Chinese, I do not know what "肉眼扒“ is. I like Angus beef though. The "modern" chinese has been contaminated so much, it has become Engness or something the Chinese do not understand.

Thanks for the Angus part. If you as a Chinese dont know what 肉眼扒 is, then it seems to be a real puzzle...

hi,there! I googled a little about 肉眼扒 and found the "ribeye steak" in the Black Angus Steakhouse menu. I think it should be the right one for 肉眼扒. I also checked what exactly ribeye part is and found that it is a pretty nice steak choice which I never tried before...

I think the 肉眼扒 is meant to be Angus Ribeye Steak. This is the closest I can come up with off the menu of a typical steakhouse.

肉眼扒 is such an unpleasing, even disgusting nmae. 肉眼 ? The eyeballs from a dead animal's head? The asshole?

In Chinese,扒 has always been negative, such as in 扒粪,扒手。 Have you heard about 周扒皮?

Who would use such a terrible name for a delicious, juicy ribeye steak? I will have New York strip next time!

牛扒 means Steak in Cantonese, a popular term in Hong Kong. In Taiwan Madarine, it's called 牛排.
