我觉得中式英语很有趣，还买过一本书《中式英语之鉴》（《The Translator's Guide To Chinglish》）。
节目中有一个男孩把驴打滚翻译成"donkey rolling", 我想起了一次在外教课上，外教问我们驴打滚是什么，班里的一个男生说到："donkey fuck off."然后同学们愣了，外教若有所思的点点头……呵呵，其实我觉得还不如直接翻译成拼音。

I know your behavior of correcting the Chinglish through the programme "Common Ground". I respect and apprecitate it because you help us recognize the mistakes that it's difficult for us to find. Actually, it's a hard job. It needs time and patience. Also, proficiency of both English and Chinese is neccessay. As you said in the programme, it's important to know the culture when learning a kind of foreign language.
I hope you keep pointing out the inappropriate usage of English if you find it in China.

Yesterday I saw you on the Common Ground. I know you are studying the chinglish. I am a teacher. There are many chinglish questions asked by my students that i can not answer. for example,给我个面子（gei wo ge mian zi）.my students translate it as "give me a face".
I work in the Dandelion Middle School. I do not know whether you have heard it. Our school accepts the children of the migrant rural workers. It is non-profit and public. it is founded by the donations from all walks of life in the world. There are many volunteers from all over the world work here. I hope you can help solve the chinglish problems on the class. I wish you can come our school to give lessons to my students if you have time. I am a postgraduate majoring in an English translation. I am quite interested in Chinglish, and I am planning to write a paper on translation of signs. So I quite appreciate your dedication to the selection of Chinglish. But here I have a problem: Can you give me a defination of Chinglish? Now some professor have written some papers on China English， Do you think they are the same?
And I also heard some Chinglish: 头儿没在（head not here!）喊什么喊？（Shout what shout!）And there are still many others we don't know, so it takes time to correct all those wrong expressions.

The idea of "face" is a little strange to many English speakers.
We do talk about it sometimes but very often in relationship to Chinese culture. We DON'T say "a face" we just say "face". We use the phrase "lose face" sometimes and so your students could say "give me face", a westerner familiar Chinese culture would understand.
But this is unusual wording for us. We normally talk about "showing respect", so you could say "show me some respect".
The concept is not identical, and cultural differences come into play. In some situations when a Chinese person may lose face, a westerner would not see any problem and situations when a westerner feels they are not being shown respect a Chinese person may not notice. Like a woman offered me a cigarette the other day which I didn't want, so she said "mei mian zi" so I had to accept. Whereas on the other hand I find it a disrespectful when people make decisions that affect me with out first asking my opinion.
So the concepts are similar but with differences.

I just purchase a copy of Chinglish: Found in Translation, and I have a submission that you might enjoy. It's a picture of a sign at the base of a national park in China.
"Admission by ticket... please follow the given route....
...no spitting, shitting, issing and littering while traveling. Let's create a clean and beautiful environment to together."
Even if it has been removed since (the photo was taken in 2000), I have evidence that indeed, it did exist.

im especially aware of this problem after trip with a foreign friend.She showed much confusion as well as interest in all signs translated into English.right, most of them are not native.from my perspective,differences of two cultures was one of the cause,anyway,chinglish sounds funny than normal one if not cause much misunderstanding...:-)
It has many meanings. It means "dry", "related", "what", "finish", "doing". In Shanghai, “干” does not translate to "fuck".
lol, you can use 告非 as the f**k word in chinese.
f**k就是“去你的”意思呀！哪里有“干”啊？

I didn't know "干“ means fxxk untill i met a guy from Fujian,and he used that word a lot.I guess its a sort of their dialect.For most northern people,f "操”(cao4)or“日”(ri4) is the way to say fxxk o_0

When I came to USA in 1985, I was a teaching assitant. Some of my students using the F-word alot. I did not know what it meant. I checked every dictionary, but did not find it. Later on, my landlady's daughter explained it to me.
I think Chinese folks use this word a lot in their speaking lanugage. I have hardly seen it in writing.
F-you = 操你?

The word "干" has many different meanings. As a verb, it means do something, working or f**k. As a adjective, it means dry, not diluted. For example "干锅鱼头" is a common dish, "干" means dry, "锅" means pot "鱼" means fish and "头" means head. Actually its means dry grilled fish head with a pot. But by poor translation, it can become "Fish head f**cking the pot" printed on the menu. Really funny and Really creative.
